The Nibiru cataclysm is a supposed disastrous encounter between the Earth and a large planetary object (either a collision or a near-miss) which certain groups believe will take place in the early 21st century. Believers in this doomsday event usually refer to this object as Planet X or Nibiru. The idea that a planet-sized object will collide with or pass by Earth in the near future is not supported by any scientific evidence and has been rejected as pseudoscience by astronomers and planetary scientists.

Real planets are born from vast clouds of gas and dust encircling their parent stars. The non-existent planet Nibiru appears to be the brainchild of Zacharia Sitchen, who apparently introduced it to the world in his book The 12th Planet in 1976. Sitchin claims to have translated Sumerian cuneiform tablets and supposedly disc Purportedly, the inhabitants of Nibiru (Anunnaki) first arrived on Earth about 450,000 years ago to mine for gold. Soon after arriving on Earth, the technologically advanced Anunnaki supposedly created humans (Homo sapiens) to serve as slaves. The Annunnaki performed this feat by the use of female apes and genetic engineering.overed that the ancients had been aware of a planet Nibiru having an orbital period of 3,600 Earth-years. Enter a woman named Nancy Lieder, founder of a website called ZetaTalk. Lieder describes herself as an alien contactee with the ability to receive messages from extra-terrestrials from the Zeta Reticuli star system through an implant in her brain. She predicted the return of Nibiru in May 2003. When that event failed to materialize, doomsday prognosticators forwarded the arrival date to 2012. And why not 2012? After all, the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar – used by the pre-Columbian Mayan civilization among others – completes a cycle in 2012. Unless you’ve been on the dark side of the moon, you know that this ending of a cycle in the Mayan calendar has caused its own doomsday stir. It is probably the reason 2012 has become so littered with doomsday predictions.

Nibiru, Planet X, and Hercolobus have long been disproved by Voyager 1, now faster than any manmade object.

Morever, astronomers reject the idea of Nibiru, and have made efforts to inform the public that there is no threat to Earth.[22] They point out that such an object so close to Earth would be easily visible to the naked eye. A planet such as Nibiru would create noticeable effects in the orbits of the outer planets.[23] Some counter this by claiming that the object has been concealed behind the Sun for several years, though this would be geometrically impossible.[14] Most photographs showing "Nibiru" by the Sun are in fact of lens flares, false images of the Sun created by reflections within the lens.[24]

Astronomer Mike Brown notes that if this object's orbit were as described, it would only have lasted in the Solar System for a million years or so before Jupiter expelled it, and that there is no way another object's magnetic field could have such an effect on Earth.[25] Lieder's assertions that the approach of Nibiru would cause the Earth's rotation to stop or its axis to shift violate the laws of physics. In his rebuttal of Immanuel Velikovsky's Worlds in Collision, which made the same claim that the Earth's rotation could be stopped and then restarted, Carl Sagan noted that, "the energy required to brake the Earth is not enough to melt it, although it would result in a noticeable increase in temperature: The oceans would [be] raised to the boiling point of water ... [Also,] how does the Earth get started up again, rotating at approximately the same rate of spin? The Earth cannot do it by itself, because of the law of the conservation of angular momentum."[26]

In a 2009 interview with the Discovery Channel, Mike Brown noted that, while it is not impossible that the Sun has a distant planetary companion, such an object would have to be lying very far from the observed regions of the Solar System to have no detectable gravitational effect on the other planets. A Mars-sized object could lie undetected at 300 AU (10 times the distance of Neptune); a Jupiter-sized object at 30,000 AU. To travel 1000 AU in two years, an object would need to be moving at 2400 km/s – faster than the galactic escape velocity. At that speed, any object would be shot out of the Solar System, and then out of the Milky Way galaxy into intergalactic space.

A kid goes into a Baskin-Robbins and asks for a scoop of chocolate ice cream. The vendor smiles and apologizes, explaining that they ran out of chocolate, but they still had 30 other flavors. "Okay," says the kid. "I guess I will try a scoop of chocolate, then." The vendor laughs, then explains again that they are out of chocolate. "Oh," says the kid. "Maybe you could get me a scoop of chocolate instead?" The vendor isn't smiling anymore. "Look kid," he says. "Let's play a game. Can you spell the "straw" in "strawberry"?" "Sure," the kid replies. "S-T-R-A-W." "Very good!" The vendor applauds. "Now, spell the "van" in vanilla." "Easy," the kid says. "V-A-N." "Excellent!" The vendor cheers. "One more and I will give you a free ice cream." "Oh, boy!" Exclaims the kid, excited. "Now, please spell the "freak" in chocolate." "Huh?" Says the kid, confused. "There is no "freak" in chocolate." "That's what I have been trying to tell you!" Exclaims the vendor, triumphantly. "There is no FREAKIN' CHOCOLATE!" ...... And there is no FREAKIN NIBIRU, either.
